Tyler Granados stretches out to return a shot in his No. 1 singles match last week Friday.

The Ripon Tiger boys’ tennis team was a win away from recording a winning record at the Waupun Quadrangular last week Saturday.

It went 1-2 at the meet as it beat Waupun 6-1 and lost to Kewaskum 7-0 and Port Washington 4-3.

“Theo [Rauch] and Iffer [Long] narrowly lost a match against Port Washington in a heartbreaker; they were in there the whole way,” Ripon head coach Breck Speers said. “But ... the singles did pretty well; the doubles struggled because we were without Micah Schoff.”

Against Waupun, the Tigers won every match except No. 3 singles. Jordan Whitrock was pulled from the lineup due to a sore knee after his first two matches.

The three doubles victories all came via forfeit for Ripon as Waupun doesn’t have enough players to field an entire squad, causing it to forfeit all its conference matches.

One nice win for the Tigers against the Warriors was Tyler Granados at No. 1 singles. The junior defeated his counterpart, who in turn beat Kewaskum’s top singles player who beat Granados.

“So at No. 1, there were four teams and of the four teams at least three of them one two and lost one,” Speers said of the top spot.

Also winning contested matches against Waupun were Ben Retzlaff at No. 2 singles and Daniel Zimmerman at No. 4 singles.
