It may be the original home of a caretaker of the old Mapes Hotel.

   Later it served as a party house for Ripon College students and locals alike.

   Maybe it even was a former home of Harrison Ford.

   121 W. Blossom St. has been many things in its nearly 160-year life, but well taken care of doesn’t seem to have been one of them.

   Though the beauty of the Italianate structure remains evident on the outside, the interior shows its age.

   A Ripon family is trying to change that — and bring the community along for the journey.

   Father Billy Hutton, daughter Haley Julian and family are restoring what they’re calling “House on the Hill.”

   “It’s definitely not in perfect condition, by any means,” Julian said.

   “It’s not even a beginner home,” Hutton added.

   But, as a family, they hope to restore it to its mid-19th century glory, while publicizing every step of the process.
