More than 15 years ago, Green Lake drive-in Hinky Dinks closed, and for years the building sat vacant with windows boarded up.

Within a year, that may change.

The Selman Alimi family is planning to bring new life to the 304 South Lawson Drive building by establishing a new eatery.

Naim Alimi, a relative of Selman who is part of the family restaurant business, noted his family is thinking the new business will be either “an ice cream shop or we’re going to do a family-style [restaurant]. That’s two options we might go with,” but he explained the family isn’t entirely certain at this point.

“Honestly, we’re not there yet because we’re not for sure on the date and stuff like that; we’re just getting it together right now,” Naim said.

He explained his family is hoping to have the eatery open by summer, but estimated it could take a year or so before it can be open for business.
